PSL3 highlights 2018 - (PS vs QG) | Peshawar Zalmi were through to the final of the PSL3 by beating Quetta Gladiators by 1 run in the hard racing thriller

Eliminator 01 full highlights Peshawar Zalmi vs Quetta Gladiators – one year ago Peshawar Zalmi needed only 7 runs to win in the last over to qualify for the final of the HBL PSL, but they were demolished by 1 run courtesy of Muhammad Nawaz’s heroic last over. This year too though the margin of win was the same but the team to bear defeat was Quetta Gladiators. Quetta Gladiators was needed 25 runs in the last over when Liam Dawson was appointed the job to defend these plenty of runs. Anwar Ali by hitting 22 runs off the first five balls, brought some hopes for Quetta Gladiators, but it was Zalmi who were over the line by 1 run.

Sarfraz, Nawaz brought Quetta Gladiators almost home

After losing a couple of early wickets, Sarfraz Ahmad and Muhammad Nawaz in the absence of Kieven Peterson and Shane Watson were promoted up the order where they brought Quetta Gladiators back on top. In the earlier ten overs, it was looking Quetta Gladiators marching towards Karachi. Without taking any serious risks Sarfraz Ahmad accumulated runs like a silent killer. With the partnership stretched to 63 off 45 balls, the asking rate was around 7.50 with 8 wickets in hands. But, after losing both batsmen on two consecutive deliveries Quetta Gladiators were on the back-foot.

The thrilling last over, powered by Anwar Ali

It has been a succession of thrilling last overs between Peshawar Zalmi vs Quetta Gladiators. Both teams have produced some historic last overs in the last three seasons of the Pakistan Super League. This season, Quetta Gladiators needed 25 runs to confirm their tour to Karachi, when Liam Dawson was given the job to see his team home with a plenty of runs to play with. Anwar Ali lightened up some bulbs of hope for the Gladiators, he smashed 22 runs off the first 5 balls with a sequence of 4, 6, 0, 6, 6. While 3 runs needed off the last ball, Liam Dawson was able to pull his length back for just one run, gifting his team a one-run victory.

With a big match temperament, Hassan Ali was the man of the match

The present most talent bowling asset of Pakistan bowling department Hassan Ali was up to the marks once again. With his straighter line and length, he never let Thisara Perera, Anwar Ali and Rilee Rossouw reach the asking rate. Taking two wickets for 22 runs with the precious economy of 5.25, he was the man of the match of eliminator 01.

In the presentation party, he said,

“As long as we win, it’s fine to win late. The last over brought pressure back on ourselves when Anwar hit a couple of sixes. The way Sarfraz was playing, it was looking that we were out of the show. I’m quite fit now with both the new and old ball. Thanks to the lovely Lahori crowd.”

Quetta Gladiator knocked-out of PSL3

Sarfraz Ahmad:

“I think the match was in our hands and lost by our error as well. Nawaz and I shouldn’t have got out too earlier. If the boys had run faster we could have a super over. But we’ll learn from the mistakes and come up with strong preparations for the upcoming season InshaAllah.”

Just like the last two years, Quetta Gladiators were also looking for their place in the final for the third consecutive time. But, this was Peshawar Zalmi terrific bowling courtesy of Wahab Riaz, Hassan Ali and Sameen Gul, never let them repeat the history. So, they are out of the PSL3.
